WHAT THE SKIN DOES FOR US (And What We Give It Back).

The skin is the largest and heaviest organ of the body.  Yes, that's right, the skin is an organ.  You cannot live without it.  It keeps all your bits and pieces inside you and keeps the outside out. The skin regulates your temperature to make sure you don't get too hot or too cold. It acts as a barrier to harmful substances.

The skin does all this and more, yet our skin is  probably the most neglected and abused organ of our body. The skin can get more conditions and diseases than any other organ. So look after it. Skin is important to your health.

There are many skin care products on the market, but there are also many natural products which can be used to care for your skin.  Here are a few suggestions.

Skin Care Home Based Remedies

Artifical ingredient free homemade recipes to care for your own skin are easy to make and cost-effective. What you put on your skin is just as important as what you eat. Commercial products often contain chemicals that are absorbed by the skin finding their way into the bloodstream which can be harmful to the overall health.

Virgin coconut oil/butter makes for a good moisturizer by providing a protective layer over the skin that locks in non-artifical moisture. Coconut oils solidifies at temperatures below 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the coconut butter in tiny lip balm or eye cream jars or any teeny sterilized jar. For a lip balm, use coconut butter on its own or add peppermint or spearmint oils. As an acne treatment, add a couple of drops of tea tree, lavender, or patchouli oils. For wrinkles, add rose, orange or patchouli oils. To treat eczema, add chamomile, geranium, or orange oils. To treat broken capillaries, add rose, palmarosa, or parsley oils. To treat cellulite, add grapefruit, tangerine, or orange oils. For stretch marks, add palmarosa or neroli oils. To treat burns, add geranium, patchouli or lavender oils.

For sunburned skin, break open a leaf of an Aloe Vera plant and smooth onto the dermis. The gel is also good for other types of burns and has soothing, cooling, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. Strawberry fluid, cucumbers and avocados are also soothing to sunburned skin.

For tired eyes, place cumbers slices over your eyes. For dark circles around your eyes, place cooled tea bags over the eyes.

For a homemade facial toner, mix green tea, chamomile or ginseng tea (made with mineral pure water or distilled water) with lavender or lemon oils. Green tea is rich in antioxidants which fight no-cost radicals that damage and age the dermis. Green tea is expounded to diminish fine lines. Lavender oils is a good toner and lemon oils is a good rejuvenator and toner. Add Vitamin C crystals as a preservative and antioxidant. MSM (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane) is a home-grown source of organic sulfur good for the skin. Add MSM crystals to your toner or eat high sulfur foodstuffs such as kale or watercress.

Prick a capsule of Vitamin A, E, or wheat germ oils and smooth directly onto your own skin, add to coconut, almond or apricot oils, or to your toner. Vitamin A is a potent antioxidant and Vitamin E is expounded to slow down the aging process. Almond oils soothes and lubricates the skin. Apricot oils protects and softens the skin. Wheat germ oils promotes skin elasticity.

For a moisturizing and refreshing mask, mix avocado with shredded cumbers. Avocados are rich in protein and Vitamin A. Cucumbers are cooling and cleansing. Use a mashed banana for a skin firming mask.
