WHAT IS SCABIES?

Scabies are caused by the mite, Sarcoptes scabiei. Scabies mites are attracted to humans by smell and their warmth. Female scabies mites burrow into the skin, creating  threadlike tunnels that are frequently visible on the skin.  Whether an infection is scabies or not is best determined by a physician.

The generally recommended treatment for scabies is permethrin -  it is said that Lindane should be avoided as a scabies treatment due to its toxicity, though any insecticide should be looked upon as potentially toxic if ingested in too large quantities, whether to treat scabies or not.

We cannot comment on the efficacy of treatment for scabies since we know of no one who has suffered from the condition.  I feel that in the first instance, you should contact your doctor or pharmacist for the initial scabies treatment which kills the mite, though the dead scabies is still in the skin. Then follow up with the excellent Manu product shown on the left. It is excellent as a follow up scabies treatment to prevent recurrence and soothe the skin during healing and removal of the dead scabies mite.  It prevents any fungal or bacterial attack of the damaged skin during healing and also prevent further parasitic infestation.

The oil is available at 25% and 4% concentrations and also comes in the form of
cream:  Manuka Cream
