DIETS - TAPEWORM AND LOW CARBOHYDRATE
The Tapeworm Diet
I have had several emails in response to may tapeworm diet featured in Issue 8. Many did not believe it, but quite a few people were familiar with the diet. Debs from Chicago wrote that her mother knew someone who was taking weight reduction capsules, and opened one up. Inside she found a number of small eggs. Sandie from Inverness, Scotland, wrote that one her friends eats worms. I think many children eat worms to find out what they taste like, but I doubt we ever ate tapeworms. Certainly not as a tapeworm diet!
I know that ordinary earthworms are edible, being more or less a staple diet of the special forces such as the SAS, but I have never heard of a worm diet as such, other than
the tapeworm diet. Imagine opening up a can of worms! In fact my wife has just
told me I have done, but I can't remember it. Perhaps it was when I ......... but that's another story! I have never opened a can of worms and eaten them, either as part of a diet or to lose weight.
The only worm diet I have heard of is the Diet of Worms in 1521 when Charles V of France tried to get Martin Luther condemned. Perhaps he wouldn't eat his worms.
Tapeworms are actually fascinating creatures and can grow pretty long. The longest is the fish worm which grows to between 2 and 12 metres, though one has been reported at 60 feet. I find it hard to imagine a goldfish with a 60 foot tapeworm. The mind boggles. I suppose the fish tapeworm diet would be better for non meat-eaters in dietary terms than the beef worm. The beef worm is found in uncooked meat and it has been reported that Maria Callas had quite a colony of them. Of course, she was a rabid fan of steak tartare which is eaten uncooked.
I have also been informed that the correct way to remove a tapeworm once you have achieved your desired weight is to heat up a bowl of milk and breath in the fumes through your nose. The tapeworm will smell the milk then come out through your nose to find it. This is a better method than the ones I detailed in Issue 8 which were quite disgusting.
For non believers, the beauty of the tapeworm diet is that you can decide on an ideal weight, or dress size, then remove the tapeworm by means of the hot milk once you reach your objective to the last ounce, or centimetre of girth. It is therefore very precise.
However, that's enough about tapeworm diets. Some people seem to think that I am an expert on diets in general. A certain TC of New York emailed me about diets for cats. I am not an animal expert
.
However, I do know that the cat's staple diet is mice, and that mice are 50% fat. It would therefore make sense for the cats to leave the mice and stick to birds, unless they can develop a taste for tapeworms. A cat tapeworm diet would be unique! Given that this is unlikely there is one alternative diet you can try with your cat TC. Or are you that cat TC, and just writing about it as being a friend because you are embarrassed?
My recommendation is to try a low carbohydrate diet with lots of protein, which means that perhaps your cat can go back to eating mice rather than birds and cheese. This diet, which I suggest you recommend to your friends, is called the Catkins Diet.
